Traffic Management
Effective Traffic Management can make or break your event. The safe, easy, and efficient flow of pedestrians and vehicles in and out of your festival/event site is paramount to visitor satisfaction.

This is particularly pertinent for Festivals in the South West, which often happen in rural places, where the local road network may not be designed to handle the expected volume or size of vehicles requiring access to your site. Effective traffic planning will ensure the free-flowing movement of those attending the festival and also other road users. The aim is to cause as minimal disruption as possible,
This could be through a variety of ways including but not limited to: signed dedicated access routes for festival traffic and/or production traffic, Production / Vehicle Gate signing, no waiting cones, loading or parking prohibition or dispensation.
Disruption is, unfortunately, inevitable & we aim to manage with the most effective method for the individual situation, this could be: pedestrian crossing facilities, |Temporary Traffic Regulatory Orders (speed limits, one-way, vehicle prohibitions), Stop / |Go. In instances where road closures can't be avoided, clearly signed diversions and advance warnings help to minimise delay and driver frustration.

We often see road work sites, commonly referred to as 'streetworks', incorrectly set up and this encouraged us to expand into offering Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) specifically for events.

We have put together a handy 10 point guide which we recommend all event managers read, it gives you some basic knowledge from Lantra's training courses on common mistakes or corner-cutting TM firms often make that could be putting your event at risk.

For example, unless you are using a fully managed service, you as the event manager are ultimately responsible for the traffic management. Once the traffic management firm leave the site and sign the site over you are responsible for its maintenance, and for this, you must have a suitably qualified person.

In the event of an accident on a site you control, failure to have an appropriately qualified person appointed to maintain your site would be seen as a failure to comply with the law - many event organisers may not be aware of this or have the correct provisions for incident management. If this situation, of a TM firm, leaving site once set up, sounds familiar get in touch and see how we can help.
